Lakers fall to Tigers 57-47

On Saturday, October 17th Dalhousie took the Dalplex court in women's basketball action against Nipissing in their second game of the Lawtons Centennial basketball tournament. The game came to a close at a final score of 57-47 for the Tigers

In the first quarter, the Lakers started with the lead which was soon turned over to the Tigers. Dalhousie kept the lead and finished the quarter 9 points ahead of the Lakers at a score of 19-10. In the second quarter, the Lakers came out with 19 points, but the Tigers maintained their lead with 29  points.

In the third quarter, both the Lakers and the Tigers increased their points which brought them into the final quarter at a score of 44-32 for Dalhousie. The fourth quarter finished much like the others with a 10 point win to Dalhousie and a final score of 57-47. The Lakers put the Tigers to the test with some great shots and 15 points compared to Dalhousie's 13 in the final quarter, but the Lakers never took the lead. 

Tessa Stammberger (Halifax, NS) of the Tigers had the most points of the game with 18 in her 29 minutes of play and was closely followed by the Lakers' Claire Abbot (Whitehorse, YK) with 15 points in 32 minutes. 

At 4pm on Saturday, October 17th, Cape Breton took a 72-63 win in their game against StFX. Lindsay Lessard (Waterloo, ON) of the X-Women had a strong second game of the tournament with 23 points in her 37 minutes of play. Colleen Kean followed close behind with 18 points throughout the game. Cape Breton now has a win and a loss in the tournament so far and StFX stands with 2 losses.

Later on in a game at 6:00pm, the Alberta Pandas and the Saint Mary's Huskies took the court in an intense game that finished in overtime with a final score of 71-64 for the Huskies. Saint Mary's forward, Laura Langille (Bedford, NS) had an impressive 23 points in her 43 minutes of play which put her on the lead of the score board. The Pandas came into overtime and took the lead right away, but the Huskies made their comeback with 12 points which secured their win.
