Dalhousie beats StFX 51-48

On ­­­Friday October 16th, the Dalhousie Tigers took on the StFX X-Women in basketball action for the Lawtons Centennial tournament at the Dalplex. The final score was 51-48 for the Dalhousie Tigers.

The first quarter had a tied score with 15 points for each team. The Tigers and the X-Women showed a strong game on the offence and finished the first half with a score of 29-27 with the Tigers in the lead. Dalhousie's Tessa Stammberger (Halifax, NS) left the half with a leading score of 12 points.

In the third period, the X-Women worked to take the lead, but the quarter finished with Dalhousie maintaining their two point lead at a score of 40-38. The final quarter put both teams to the test. The score was tied several times throughout the game, but the Tigers managed to come out at the end of the game with a win at a final score of 51-48.

Lindsay Lessard (Waterloo, ON) had the most points for the X-Women with 14 points in her 35 minutes of play. Tessa continued her leading score for the game with 17 points and was also named player of the game for the Tigers while Marcy Robinson was named player of the game for the X-Women.

Earlier that evening, Alberta played Cape Breton at the Dalplex and finished with a close score of 64-60 with Alberta taking the win. After falling behind in the first quarter, the Alberta Pandas made a comeback to take the lead. Cape Breton's Alison Keough led on the scoreboard with 24 points in the game.

Following that game, the Nipissing Lakers and the Saint Mary's Huskies took the court and finished with a final score of 69-31 for the Huskies. Claire Abbott (Whitehorse, Yukon) led the scoring for the Lakers and for the game with 12 points in her 35 minutes of play.
