Dalhousie University women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Sophie Gaube to the Tigers 2015-16 roster.

A 5’7 guard, Sophie has played for Sir John A. MacDonald High School’s varsity basketball team since grade 10. She was selected as their MVP last year and was the rookie of the year the previous season. After having an outstanding season last year, Sophie was selected to play in the Metro High School Basketball all-star game.

Sophie has represented Nova Scotia on both the U16 and U18 summer teams and also played a season with the Thunder Selects basketball club in 2012.

“I can’t wait to attend Dal this fall and play basketball for the Tigers,” says Gaube. “I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to play the sport I love while pursuing my science degree at such a well-recognized university.”

A star in the classroom, the Hubley, NS native has been on the Principle’s List in both her grade 10 and 11 years, maintaining an average of 99%. She was awarded the Student Council award for highest academic average in grade 10 and the Maynard Memorial award for highest academic standing in grade 11.

“Sophie’s excellence in academics, work ethic, discipline and focus all make her a great fit for Dalhousie,” says Stammberger. “I look forward to working with Sophie and I’m confident that she’ll give us the depth at the point guard position we’ve been looking for.”

Sophie will graduate from Sir John A. MacDonald this June and will look to continue her academic success in Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Science program this coming fall.
