The Sea-Hawks take a tight battle over the Tigers at 66-65

The Dalhousie Tigers hosted the Memorial Sea-Hawks in an extremely tight game this evening at the Dalplex. The game remained close going back and forth between both teams. In the final minutes of the game there seemed to be hope for a Tigers victory with Tessa Stammberger closing the Sea-Hawks lead to 66-65 with seconds left and Tigers possession of the ball, but the Sea-Hawks ended up taking the win with their one point lead.

The Tigers started the game off strong and dominated the first quarter reaching a ten-point lead over the Sea-Hawks.  The Sea-Hawks added six more points to lessen the Tigers lead to 18-14 to end the quarter. The second quarter remained tight with the Sea-Hawks breaking into the biggest lead of the quarter in the final minute, making the game 39-32 to end the half.

After half, the Sea-Hawks came out firing into a 13-point lead in the first three minutes. The Tigers were able to claw their way back to take the quarter from the Sea-Hawks at 51-50. The final quarter started off strong defensively for both teams with only two points scored in the first three minutes. It was an extremely close quarter with the largest lead reaching a mere three points. Courtney Thompson came up huge for the Tigers scoring ten of her 21 points to keep the Tigers in the game. Stammberger also set the Tigers up for their last opportunity to take the victory by scoring the final two points to bring the score to 66-65 for the Sea-Hawks. Unfortunately the Tigers weren't able to finish off the game leaving the Sea-Hawks to take the hard fought win.

Sandra Amoah and Megan Robinson led the Sea-Hawks to their victory. Amoah scoring 16 points and bringing down five rebounds, and Robinson making seven assists and getting 14 points of her own.  Thompson once again lead the Tigers offence with 21 points and five assists along with teammate Stammberger who notched 11 points, five assists and eight rebounds.

The Dalhousie Tigers hosted tonight's game as a Make Some Noise game in partnership with the Student Athlete Mental Health Initiative. The goal was to raise awareness on mental illness and the stigma associated with it. The Tigers would like to thank Lawtons and East Coast Lifestyle for sponsoring the event, as well as the Dalhousie Health Promotion team and Mental Health Awareness Committee for participating as well.

The Tigers and Sea-Hawks go back at it tomorrow at 12pm back on the Tigers home court at the Dalplex.
