Dalhousie University women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Diedre Alexander to the Tigers 2014-15 roster.

The 5’7” guard, who was named the 2013-14 New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association (NBIAA) Female Player of the year, is a four year member of the Woodstock High School Varsity Lady Thunder women’s basketball team. She was previously named to the 2012-13 NBIAA South/West “AAA” Female All-Star Team and was also a starter on the 2013 New Brunswick U17 Canada Games team, which finished sixth in the country.

Diedre’s talent and desire has had a great impact on her high school. She received the 2013 varsity athlete of the year award for her outstanding contribution to her high school’s basketball team and was also named the junior varsity athlete of the year in 2012 and 2011.

 Alexander expressed her excitement and thoughts about her arrival, “Dalhousie has a reputation of being an outstanding academic institution, so having the opportunity to attend such a highly esteemed school while playing for the Tigers is really exciting. I know it will be a challenge, but it’s something I’m looking forward to.”

The Woodstock, NB native will graduate from Woodstock High School this June and will attend Dalhousie in the fall. Diedre currently holds a 97% overall average, and expects to continue her academic success in the Bachelor of Arts program at Dalhousie. Coach Stammberger is thrilled about Alexander’s arrival stating, “Diedre is an exceptional student in the classroom and her athletic and desire to defend is going to make her a great fit here with the Dalhousie Tigers. We’re excited to have such a quality student-athlete commit to our program.”
