Tigers use second half surge to defeat Axewomen 65-49

The Dalhouse Tigers snapped their two-game losing streak with an dominating win over the Acadia Axewomen Saturday night at the Dalplex.

The Tigers came out with a chip on their shoulder and with something to prove after they suffered a 20 point loss to Acadia on Wednesday night. The Tigers had three starters in double figures and Acadia couldn't stop a late Tigers run that sealed the deal.

Acadia got down early in the game and only put seven points on the board in the first quarter. Courtney Thompson had 8 of her game-high 20 points in the first and the Tigers led 15-7 after ten minutes of play.

Acadia opened with an 11-3 run to start the second quarter and tied the game up at 18 with seven minutes left in the quarter. The Tigers regrouped and held a nine point lead until Maya Mactumpag got the hoop and the harm to narrow the gap to six, and the Tigers led 31-25 at the half.

In the third half, Anna Stammberger was forced to call a full timeout when the Axewomen cut the lead to four.

Whatever she said, it sure did the trick.

The Tigers went on a roar, mounting a 17-2 run and made the score 58-41 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Acadia simply couldn't mount a comeback, and the Tigers held on to win 65-49.

Rebecca Nuttall recorded a double-double for the Tigers, with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Abbey Duinker was the only Axrwoman player to reach double figures, notching 15b points and 7 rebounds on the night.

Dalhousie is back to playing .500 ball in the AUS with a 2-2 with the win, and the Axewomen drop to 1-3 on the season and slide into fifth place in the AUS
