Carleton uses second half surge to power past Tigers 71-53

Tonight's women's basketball game between the Dalhousie Tigers and Carleton Ravens was a tale of two completely different halves. In the first half, the Tigers and Ravens battled hard back and forth, but the Ravens outscored the Tigers 43-16 in the second half to defeat the Tigers 71-53.

Lindsay Shotbolt led the Ravens with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Ravens exposed the Tiger's weak interior defense and forwards Heather Lindsay and Elizabeth Roach had 14 and 12 points respectively. The Ravens used their size and strength against the Tigers and gained a huge advantage on the offensive boards.

The Ravens led the Tigers after the first quarter 17-14, but the Tigers used an 8-2 run at the start of the second quarter to pull ahead. Anna Stammberger's Tigers shot the ball well in the first half and the score was 37-28 for the Tigers at the half.

The second half was a completely different story.

The Ravens scored early and often, opening up the lead that the Tigers just couldn't come back from. The Tigers offence was met with a stifling Ravens defense that limited the Tigers to just 9 points in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw more of the same, as the Ravens outscored the Tigers 20-7 in the final frame. The Tigers turned the ball over time and time again, and couldn't convert their free throws, shooting 54.2% on the night.

The Ravens are back in action Saturday night at the Dalplex as they take on the Saint Mary's Huskies. The Tigers take on the UQAM Citadins Saturday night at 8:00pm.
