Birrell and James tops in the 600m

The Tigers had a number of great performances at the 2023 SMU Open Saturday at the Canada Games Centre.

Zach James ran a personal-best time of 1:19.52 in the men's 600m, auto-qualifying for the national championships next month. The performance earned him a sixth-place ranking in the nation.

Carley Birrell won the women's 600m with a personal-best time of 1:33.80 and is currently ranked fifth in the country.

Lynn Sheppard earned the top spot in the women's 18-19 60m and 200m events, while Dal Lord took the top spot in the men's 200m and 300m. Teigan Schentrup won the women's 200m (20-34). Kristen Ross was the first to cross the line in the women's 1000m, while Hannah Trites and Frances Wright were first and second, respectivley in the 1500m.

Amelia Reid and Marshall Diego both took first place in their respective high jump events, while Abbi Gaudry and Austin Conrad did the same in the long jump. Conrad also won the men's 18-19 triple jump, as did Hannah McGean in the women's event, while Oluwatobi Oshikoya took top spot in the men's 20-34 triple jump.
