Tigers add Goodwin and Reid for 2020-21 season

Dalhousie Tigers track and field head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Jessica Goodwin and Amelia Reid for the 2020-21 season.

Hailing from Orillia, O.N., Goodwin has multiple high school athletics medals to her name. Competing for Orillia Secondary School (OSS), she holds seven school track and field records and has represented OSS at Ontario Federation of School Athletics Association (OFSAA) track and field championships multiple times. Most recently she finished 8th in the 400m hurdles in 2019. She went on to place seventh at the 2019 Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field Championships in the 400m hurdles.

Goodwin was named the 2019-20 Legend of OSS award for displaying outstanding athletic ability, leadership and character throughout her high school career.

“Since grade 10, Dalhousie has been my dream school,” says Goodwin. “I am excited to live in such a beautiful city, on the ocean and to attend and compete for an amazing school.”

A multi-year honour roll student, Goodwin will be working towards a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences while attending Dalhousie.

Reid, a native of New Maryland, N.B., competes for Fredericton Legion Track Club and Fredericton High School’s track and field team. The 2019 New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association (NBIAA) provincial champion in high jump, Reid also finished third at the Hershey Canada 2019 Athletics Canada Indoor Championships and ninth at the 2019 Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championship in Cape Breton.

“I’m super excited to be a part of the Tigers family and to come in September to start training with the team,” says Reid. “I am looking forward to contributing to the success of this great program while studying at Dal.”

A recent graduate of Fredericton High School, she earned high honours and was named a Black Kat Scholar. Reid will be studying kinesiology at Dalhousie.

“We're expecting both of these women to be contributors at the conference level as early as their first years,” says Lehman. “Jessica has the ability to contend for medals in the hurdles at the AUS championships and will add depth to our sprints and relays. Amelia is a very talented high jumper with personal bests that are already competitive in our conference. She has great upsides and experience in the horizontal jumps as well.”
