(Halifax, NS) – Athletics Nova Scotia played host to hundreds of athletes competing at ANS Indoor Open at the Canada Games Centre. Over the course of two days, plenty of standout performances for all teams both on the track and in the jumps.

Friday night treated the Tigers multi-eventers well as Audley Cummings got the meet going with a huge 6.71m leap in the long jump event, far enough to put him in the national rankings at 12^th place. Following up that performance was Lorena Heubach with a 5.28 long jump.

With the competition on the track heating up, Matthew Coolen had a stellar season opener in the 60m hurdles with a time of 6.48s, currently putting him in the top 10 in the country. Coming in right behind Coolen was Timothy Brennan of StFX with a time of 8.84s.

Keeping the fast times coming was Maya Reynolds, with a blistering 7.66s in the 60m sprint for the Tigers, ranking her fifth in the country in the event. The Tigers continued to put up great times throughout the event on Saturday with Michelle Reddy putting up a time of 4:38.48 in the 1500m to place her in the top 10, as well as Mike Van Der Poel running another fast time to keep his first place national ranking with a 34.85s in the 300m.

A strong field in the men's 1500m resulted in fast times coming out of the heat, with Andrew Peverill of Saint Mary's taking the victory with a 3:53.43 to put him eighth in the country at the end of the weekend. Following him close behind was Angus Rawling of StFX with a 3:54.39 to rank him 12^th nationally.

With the final standout performance of the weekend, Shelby MacIssac of Moncton put up a great time in the 600m with a 1:35.79, which would put her in the top 12 in Canada in the event.

The next event on the track comes next weekend at the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal, followed by the SMU Open at the Canada Games Centre on February 10^th.
