Tigers teams top after day one of Jack Scholz

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – At the annual Jack Scholz Memorial Swim Meet, the Dalhousie Tigers are first in the women's, men's, and team standings after the first of two sessions.

Sitting second in all three standings are the host Axemen and Axewomen.

The SeaHawks Heidi Perry won the opening race, the 200m butterfly, touching the wall just before Amari DeLima-Baril and Chloe Paul-Chowdhury of the Tigers.

Isaac Bahler of the Tigers won the 200m butterfly on the men's side. Fellow Tiger Freddy Chandler-Baas touched in second followed by Gordon Shortt of the Axemen.

In the 50m breaststroke, Acadia's Ella Collins finished first followed by Marcy Whelan of the SeaHawks and Ava Mackenzie of the Tigers.

On the men's side, Keilen Bellis of the Tigers won the 50m breast. Teammate Connor Maloney touched second followed by UNB's Blake Kingston.

It was a Tigers sweep of the women's 100m freestyle with Reagan Crowell, Elaine Gentleman and Emma Carter Clarke going 1-2-3.

Kate Tuck and Emilie Schofield touched in behind Sophie Rooney of Acadia in the 200m IM. Tiger logan Sparkes won the men's event, touching the wall before Nate Thompson of the Axemen and fellow Tiger Alex Dalessio.

After the dust settled on a tight women's 100m backstroke, hundredths of seconds separated Meredith Coolen in first place from Melissa Brown of Memorial in second and Katie Berwick of Dalhousie in third. Liam Ferguson won the men's 100m backstroke and followed that up with a second place finish in the 50m butterfly.

DeLima-Baril earned her second, second-place finish of the day, touching the wall just after Rooney in the 50m butterfly.

Crowell and Sparkes won their second events of the night in the 400m freestyle women's and men's events respectively. Logan's brother Morgan earned his first podium as a Tiger, finishing second in the 400m free.

Tigers Schofield and Maloney won the 200m breaststroke events in the final events of the night.

Today's session one included 18 events. The swimmers are back in the pool tomorrow for the second session that begins at 8:30 am on AUStv.ca
