(FREDERICTON, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers swam away with top honours at the first Atlantic University Sport swim meet of the season. 

The Tigers dominated competition at the 2017 Amby Legere Invitational, hosted by the UNB Varsity Reds. 

Dal's women finished atop the team standings, outscoring runner-up Acadia by almost 230 points. 

The Dal men won the team competition by 80 points over the Axemen. 

Tigers swimmers won 14 of Sunday's 17 events. 

Individually, Liam Branton won the men's 100-metre individual medley and the men's 50-metre butterfly. 

Lise Cinq-Mars won the women's 50-metre and 200-metre butterfly events, while Isabel Sarty took first in both the women's 200-metre individual medley and 400-metre freestyle. 

"I feel like we swam well, we raced tough. Can we be better, yup," said Tigers head coach Lance Cansdale. "We were dominant, in the sense of winning events. The quality part, we're really good at, but we've got some work to do on the bottom end. The teams are showing some depth, Acadia has really come up nice and with UPEI not being able to travel as much and MUN not being here, those third, fourth, fifth, sixth swimmers in an event really make a difference." 

Acadia's Jessica Pelletier broke Dal's hold on the top step of the podium, taking first in the women's 50-metre and 100-metre backstrokes. 

The Axemen's Adam Deutsch won the men's 200-metre breaststroke. 

Mount Allison scored a pair of second place finishes, with Olivia Feschuk the runner-up in the women's 50-metre backstroke and the Mounties' Geraint Berger taking silver in the men's 50-metre backstroke. 

The host Varsity Reds were led by Andrea Greene, who finished fifth in the women's 50-metre backstroke, and Noah Horwood, who scored a fifth place finish in the men's 50-metre butterfly. 

"I'm pretty surprised, going in, with how I did," said Horwood. "I'm happy with where I am now, basically where I finished last year, but earlier, and I'm stronger in the water, but there's lots of room for improvement." 

The next meet on the AUS schedule sees the teams at Acadia University, on October 28th and 29th.
