(Halifax, N.S.) – First-year Tigers swimmer Alec Karlsen set a new AUS record in the men's 400m IM event in a time of 4:21.52 on the second night of the Kemp-Fry Invitational swim meet. He broke fellow Tiger Bryan Fummerton's time of 4:21.62, set November 25, 2011.

At the end of day two, Dalhousie continues to lead the women's standings after winning three A finals and the 400m freestyle relay. Lise Cinq-Mars (100m butterfly) and Phoebe Lenderyou (50m and 200m backstroke) posted U Sports-qualifying times in their first-place finishes. Lenderyou and Cinq-Mars also won the relay along with Halle Loyek and Claire Yurkovich. Caroline Hickman also set a U Sports-qualifying time in the 200m backstroke.

McGill captured three A finals and is currently in second place in the team standings. Jessica Warrack (400m IM), Valerie De Broux (100m breaststroke) and Simone Cseplo (200m Freestyle) all had first-place finishes in U Sports-qualifying times. Farah Hafazalla, Rebecca Gillis and Carly Ede also posted U Sports markers in their respective events.

Memorial's Charli LeBlanc had another good day in the pool, winning the 50m freestyle final. She also qualified for the U Sport championships in the 50m backstroke, as did teammate Veronica Reid in the 100m backstroke.

Mount Allison's Olivia Feschuk qualified for the U Sports championships in the 200m backstroke.

On the men's side, McGill leads the team standings after two days of competition. Samuel Wang (100m butterfly) and Colin Somers (100m breaststroke) were the event winners for the Redmen. They posted U Sports-qualifying times in both races, as did Jean-Daniel Vallières, Kade Wist, Duncan Burns and Zachary Pilling. Somers also qualified in the 400m IM, as did the 400mfreestyle relay team of Wang, Gabriel Fortin, David Whiteside and Brandon Freiberger after a second-place finish.

Following close behind is the host Tigers who had five A final wins today including the 400m freestyle relay. Alec Karlsen (400m IM), Tyler Immel-Herron (200m backstroke), Gavin Dyke (200m freestyle) and the relay team of Dyke, Immel-Herron, Tony Liew and Liam Branton placed first in U Sports-qualifying times. Morrgan Payne also had a first-place finish in the 50m backstroke.

Keenan Teghtsoonian and Peter Inches also posted U Sports-qualifying times in their respective events. Dyke, Payne, Immel-Herron and Liew hit their marks in multiple events on day two.

Acadia's Brett Liem set a U Sports marker, winning the 50m freestyle event. Mount Allison's Geraint Berger also qualified in the same event.

Memorial's David Haines placed third in the 200m backstroke to punch his ticket to the U Sports championships in February.

Day three of the Kemp-Fry Invitational starts tomorrow morning at 10:00amAST for preliminaries, followed by finals at 4:30pmAST.
