(Halifax, N.S.) – In the first day of Dalhousie's Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet, 25 swimmers met CIS championship qualifying times.
The host Tigers had 12 swimmers make their mark including Lise Cinq-Mars, Katie Webster, Rachel Shin, Tony Liew, Lucy MacLeod, Gavin Dyke, Tyler Herron, Phoebe Lenderyou, Morrgan Payne, Claire Yurkovich, Keenan Teghtsoonian and Kyle Watson. Leading the way for the Tigers was Phoebe Lenderyou, capturing gold in the 100m backstroke and 50m fly events, setting new AUS records in both. Tony Liew set a new AUS record in the 50m backstroke, previously set ny Tigers swimmer Chris Stewart in 2000. The Tigers also set CIS qualifying times in the women's 400m free style relay.
McGill had 11 swimmers post CIS qualifying times including David Whiteside, Duncan Burns, Simone Cseplo, Rebecca Gillis, Katie Caldwell, Jessica Warrack, Jean-Daniel Vallières, Carly Ede, Katerina Cardi, Kade Wist and Amanda Borowczyk. Leading the way for McGill was Vallières who won both the 200m IM and breaststroke events.
UNB's Lauren Adam won the 50m breaststroke and Charli LeBlanc posted a CIS qualifying time with her second place finish in the 100m backstroke.
Acadia's Rebecca MacPherson also posted a CIS qualifying time with a second place finish in the 200m free event.
At the end of day one, McGill is leading the men's meet with 166 points after capturing five of the nine events, followed by Dalhousie who won four events with 112. Acadia grabbed 45 points, Memorial 16, UNB 12, MtA 9 and UPEI 2.
On the women's side, McGill leads with 130 points after winning three of the nine events. Following closely behind is Dalhousie who won five events with 123. UNB is in third with 46, while Acadia has 39, MtA 19 and UPEI six.
Day two of the Kemp-Fry Invitational starts tomorrow morning at 10:00am for heats followed by finals at 4:00pm.
