2015-16 Women's Swimming Season Recap

2015-16 Women's Swimming Season Recap

by Cody Baugh

The women’s swimming team continued their reign over the AUS with their 16th straight championship title and a fifth place finish at the CIS National championship. While the whole team contributed to the success of the Tigers this season, individual efforts by Phoebe Lenderyou and Katherine Webster stood out.

Phoebe Lenderyou was absolutely unstoppable this year in the AUS going a perfect 20 for 20 in her events including the AUS championships. On top of her perfect season, she added 13 new AUS records over the course of the season. Lenderyou was named the AUS female swimmer of the year for her remarkable season. To cap off the year, Lenderyou qualified for four A finals, earning a bronze medal, two fourths and one seventh place finish.

In her final season as a Tiger, Katherine Webster took home two bronze medals at the CIS championship, the best result of any Tiger. She placed third in both the 400m and 800m freestyle events. At the AUS championships, Webster took home gold in all four races she entered.

With what was a fairly young team, the Tigers proved that they will be a potent threat at the CIS championships for years to come. “As a team, we competed so well and displayed incredible team spirit and togetherness, we are very confident and psyched for next season,” says head coach Lance Cansdale, who was named the AUS coach of the year for the fourth-straight season.

As a team, the Tigers were as impressive as always, going undefeated in all AUS swim meets. They won 11 individual races and all three relays at the AUS championships. Dalhousie also added to the history book, setting a new record in the 400m medley relay.

Lise Cinq-Mars was the most impressive addition to the Tigers team, earning both AUS female rookie of the year and rookie swimmer of the championship meet for her efforts.

The Tigers will be losing three of their leaders in Katherine Webster, Rachel Shin and Ainsley Fraser to graduation, but have a lot of depth heading into the 2016-17 season.
