This is Dan Ota’s 25th season as head coach of the men’s volleyball Tigers. Coach Ota is a 16-time recipient of the AUS Coach of the Year award and was Dalhousie’s Coach of the Year in 2014-15 and 2007-08. He sports a career 411-202 record. 

Ota led Team Canada's Next Gen team to a 2nd-place finish at the 2023 NORCECA Men's Continental Championship this summer, marking their first-ever medal at the event. He has enjoyed success at every level of coaching, winning provincial titles at both the high school and club levels in Alberta, a Western Canadian championship in 1997 with Team Alberta, and silver medals at both the 2007 World Universiade Games and 2016 USAV High Performance Championships with Team Canada. 

Dan is a former Executive Director for Volleyball Nova Scotia as well as a former Technical Director for Alberta Volleyball. He is a NCCP Certified Advanced Development coach. He obtained a Master of Kinesiology (Art and Science of Coaching) degree from the University of Calgary. A native of Calgary, AB, Dan has lived in Halifax for nearly 30 years. Away from volleyball, he enjoys playing hockey and golf.
