Tigers add Malinek for 2023-24

Dalhousie Tigers men’s volleyball head coach is pleased to announce the commitment of Lucas Malinek for the 2023-24 season.

A 6’3 outside hitter, Malinek hails from Delta, British Columbia. A member of the Delta Secondary School volleyball team, Malinek and his Pacers teammates finished in twelfth at the BC School Sports provincial championship in 2021-22 season. He was named an all-star at the 2021 Douglas College Boys High School Tournament and the 2021 UBC Mizuno High School Volleyball Tournament.

Malinek plays his club volleyball for Seaside Volleyball Club. Named the club MVP for the last two seasons, he was also named the 2021 MVP for the Volleyball BC provincial tournament at the 17U level.

Malinek is excited to be a Tiger saying “Ego tigris et in aeternum – I am a Tiger now and forever.”

Off the court, Malinek also plays soccer and basketball. He will be studying recreation management at Dalhousie.

“Lucas has shown strong reception skills for his age,” says Ota. “Considering how many excellent servers we have in our league, we are happy to add Lucas to our squad, and his skill set will complement our bigger, young players who are still developing their own reception skills.”

The Tigers returned to the RSEQ playoffs this season, after a three season absence.
