Donovan & Lavoie earn U SPORTS awards

Men's volleyball players Matthew Donovan and Mathieu Lavoie earned U SPORTS regonition at the national championship all-Canadian Breakfast this morning.

The AUS MVP and an all-star, Matthew Donovan was named a U SPORTS second team all-Canadian. A fifth-year outside hitter from London, Ont., Donovan led the Tigers to a 7-8 regular season record this year, clinching first place in the conference standings.

The six-foot-four engineering student led the league in points with 244.5, and points per set, averaging 4.40. He also led the conference with 3.79 kills per set, earning a total of 212 kills all season with a .243 hitting percentage.

Donovan also had 22 blocks, averaging 0.39 per set, and added 125 digs this season.

 

The AUS rookie of the year, Mathieu Lavoie is a first-year libero and was named to the U SPORTS all-rookie team.

The science student from Winnipeg, Man., appeared in 14 games and 56 sets for the Tigers this season.

Lavoie finished the season in second in the league in digs with 108, averaging 1.93 digs per set. He also finished with 29 assists on the season for an average of 0.52 assists per set.
