Tigers finish final interlock with a 1-2 record

(Halifax, NS) – The Tigers men's volleyball team went 1-2 this past weekend during the third AUS-RSEQ Interlock event in Laval, QC. This tournament marked the end of the Tigers regular season, as they head into the AUS Championships February 25 with a record of 11-6.

On Friday February 10, the host Laval Rouge et Or defeated the Tigers 3-2 in a close fought battle with only two points separating the two teams in the fifth deciding set. The Rouge et Or were led by Vicente P.Villalobos who recorded 37 points in the battle with 36 kills and 10 digs. Kristen O'Brien was the notable player on the Tigers, logging a total of 22.5 points. Among these points, O'Brien had 17 kills and 6 digs.

Saturday February 11 the U Sports number 6 ranked Montreal Carabins handed the Tigers their second loss of the weekend. The Tigers Second game of the interlock was another thrilling match with a fifth set needed to decide the victor. The Carabins were led by Alyson Francillon who generated 18.5 points in the match with 16 kills and 14 digs. The Tigers got a strong contribution from forth year outside hitter Matthew Donovan who recorded a match high 21.5 points with 20 kills and 14 digs.

The third and final game of the interlock was the Tigers only win of the tournament as they beat the Sherbrooke Vert et Or by a final score of 3-0. Matthew Donovan and Kristen O'Brien once again stepped up to lead the Tigers as they both recorded double-digit kills - Donovan had a total of 16 kills and O'Brien had 10. The Tigers defence was also on point against Sherbrooke as they only allowed 42.5 points compared to Sherbrooke's 51.

The Dalhousie Tigers take on the UNB Varsity Reds in the best 2-out-3 AUS Championship series starting February 25.
