Tigers go 1-2 in preseason interlock tournament

(HALIFAX N.S.) - The Tigers men's volleyball team went 1-2 this past weekend during the 2016 AUS-RSEQ Interlock Event in Montreal, QC. This tournament marked the end of the Tigers preseason action, as they head into their home opener Friday November 5 with an overall preseason record of one win and three losses.

On Friday October 28, the Montreal Carabins defeated the Tigers 3-1 in front of just over 100 fans. The Carabins were led by Alyson Francillon who recorded 15 points in the battle with 13 kills and 6 digs. Kristen O'Brien was the notable player on the Tigers, logging a total of 15 points. Among these points, O'Brien had 10 kills and seven digs.

The second game held on Saturday October 29 was the Tigers only win of the tournament as they beat the Sherbrooke Vert et Or by a final score of 3-0. Tigers players Matthew Donovan and Kristen O'Brien stepped their games as they both recorded double digit kills - Donovan had a total of ten kills and O'Brien had 14. The Tigers defence was also on point against Sherbrooke as they tallied a total of 8.5 blocks as compared to Sherbrooke's four.

The final game of the tournament gave the Tigers their second loss of the weekend by a score of 3-0 to the Laval Rouge et Or. Laval was led by Vincent P. Villalobos who had 14 kills and three digs throughout the game. Both Donovan and O'Brien on the Tigers had 11 kills each and contributed two blocks to the team total of six.

The Dalhousie Tigers host the Memorial Sea-Hawks in their home opener on Friday November 5. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
