This week’s flash back Friday features our men’s volleyball team from the 1999-00 season. In the front row (L-R) we have Jakub Orzechowski, Darren Calabrese, Sasho MacKenzie, Dave Cox, Josh Muise, Mike Chumbley, and Jared Regier. In the back row (L-R) we have Corey Adams (Athletic Therapist), Kirk Yanofsky (Assistant Coach), Jeff Stevens, Ryan Andrews, Aaron Nutting, Bruce Carruthers, John Dugga, Sean Wormsbecker, Chris Wolfendon, and Dan Ota (Head Cocah).
During this season, the team was named the AUAA Champions, and they made it to the CIAU championships. From this team, Josh Muise, Ryan Andrews, and Chris Wolfenden were named AUS first team all-stars and Wolfenden was also named the AUS most valuable player and one of the CIS second team all-Canadians. The team’s Libero, Mike Chumbley was titled as AUS libero of the year which helped to bring the team towards its victory.
Special mention to head coach, Dan Ota, who is still with the team and is now in his 16th season as head coach. He has received the AUS coach of the year award twelve times and currently has over 340 career wins since working with the Tigers.
