Dalhousie falls to Sherbrooke after a close 4th set

On Saturday, October 24th at 1pm, the Dalhousie Tigers took on Sherbrooke Vert et Or at the Dalplex in regular season men's volleyball action. The final score for the game was 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 15-25, 25-22) for Sherbrooke Vert et Or over the Dalhousie Tigers.

Sherbrooke Vert et Or took the first set at a score of 25-16 over the Dalhousie Tigers. Sherbrooke had the lead from the start and managed to maintain it throughout the entire set. Samuel Suprenant (Candiac, QC) made the majority of the kills for Vert et Or in the first set.

The Tigers' Scott Bailey (Ottawa, ON), Connor Maessen (Dartmouth, NS), and Justin Lynch (Mt. Uniacke, NS) made the majority of the kills for Dalhousie, but it wasn't enough to gain the lead over Sherbrooke.

The first set continued with another win for Sherbrooke at a score of 25-20 over the Tigers. Sherbrooke's William Marier made the most digs for the team which kept the play going for the teams. Joel Beauregard (Sherbrooke, QC) led with the most assists for the team which allowed them to capitalize on their kills.

The Tigers came into the third set for the win and came away with 25 points to Sherbrooke's 15. Jonathan Macdonald (Halifax, NS) had 30 assists by the end of the set which helped the Tigers to make their first overall point of the game. Bailey, Maessen, and Lynch continued their lead for kills on the Tigers' side. However, Sherbrooke's Ivan Reka (Montreal, QC) had the most kills by that point in the game with 11 overall.

In the fourth set, the teams continued to match each other point for point with several exciting plays and digs that brought the energy to a high at the Dalplex.  After an excellent dig from outside the court made by Macdonald, Sherbrooke was still able to take the kill and the lead at 16-12 by the middle of the set. Adam Sandeson (Lower Truro, NS) kept the play going for the Tigers at 12 digs throughout the game, but Sherbrooke still kept their lead for the remainder of the set.

Sherbrooke's Reka held the most kills for the game, with 13, which led Vert et Or to their final 3-1 win (25-16, 25-20, 15-25, 25-22). Player of the game for Sherbrooke was libero William Marier (Sherbrooke, QC) and play of the game for Dalhousie was libero Adam Sandeson.

Earlier that morning, the Montreal Carabins played the UNB Varsity Reds in a close game that finished with a final score of 3-1 for UNB (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22). Alyson Francillon (Longueuil, QC) had the most kills for Montreal at 17, which was also the highest of the game. UNB's Mathieu Losier (Fredericton, NB) had 44 assists for the game and Montreal's Gabriel Chancy (Montreal, QC) followed closely with 42 throughout the game.

In another morning game, Laval Rouge et Or beat the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19). Memorial's Jordan Murray (Burlington, ON) made 12 kills out of his 22 atttempts and Laval's Bruno Lortie (Ottawa, QC) followed close behind with 11 kills. Memorial had the most assists for the game from Kevin Delahunt (Halifax, NS) at 23 and Laval was a close second at 22 from Frederic Bolduc (Quebec, QC).

The next games of the tournament will happen on Saturday evening with action from Montreal vs. Memorial at 6pm, Sherbrooke vs. UNB at 8pm, and Laval vs. Dalhousie at 8pm.
