Tigers defeat Varsity Reds 3-1

The Dalhousie Tigers (15-1) extended their winning streak to seven games as they defeated the UNB Varsity Reds (8-8) 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16) after dropping the first set. The Tigers have now won five straight games against their rivals from New Brunswick.

Alex Dempsey had a team-high 13 kills in the victory for the Tigers, while Kristen O'Brien added 11 and Bryan Duquette had ten. Adam Sanderson was named the Subway player of the game after registering 11 digs.

Elvind Anderson had a game-high 18 kills in the loss for the Varsity Reds, while Tristen Burridge had 11 digs.

Bryan Duquette opened the first set with a kill but the Tigers lead would be short lived as the Varsity Reds out-powered the Tigers to take the first set 25-20.

Tied at nine in the second set, the Tigers used a 6-0 run to give themselves a 15-9 lead as they evened the game at a set apiece after they won 25-17.

It was a dogfight in the start of the third set as both teams looked to gain an advantage. After holding a 11-8 lead, the Tigers went on a 5-1 run to open up a 16-9 advantage. Alex Dempsey ended the set with a thundering kills as the Tigers clawed within one set of a game victory.

After the Varsity Reds held a slim 11-10 lead in the fourth set, the Tigers absolutely exploded as they went on a 15-6 run to win the set 25-16.

The two teams will finish their seasons tomorrow when they square off against at the Dalplex, with things getting underway at 4:00pm.
