Tigers claim 2013-14 Subway AUS men's and women's swim titles

The Tigers claimed their 16th consecutive men's and 15th consecutive women's AUS titles at Memorial University over the weekend.

In the final day of competition, the Tigers added another 13 medals to their tally including nine gold, three silver and five bronze.

Rachel Shin led the way for the Tigers with three gold medals (200m backstroke, 200m IM and 400m medley relay). Other gold medal winners included Alison Grant (800m freestyle), Keishia Mills (50m backstroke and 400m medley relay), David Sharpe (200m backstroke and 400m medley relay), Molly Wedge (100m freestyle and 400m medley relay), Chris Reith (1500m freestyle), women's 400m medley relay team (Mills, Shin, Wedge and Meagan Bernier) and the men's 400m medley relay team (Sharpe, Jeremy Ryant, Tony Liew and Joe Ur).

With five gold medals during the three-day event, David Sharpe was named the men's championship swimmer of the meet. Alison Grant was named the women's championship swimmer of the meet, collecting two gold medals, a silver and a fourth place finish. Paige Robillard was named the women's rookie of the meet with one gold, one bronze, a fourth and fifth place finish.

In total, the Tigers collected 54 medals in 38 events including 27 gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze. The men's team finished the meet with 376.5 points, 181.5 more than second place Memorial. The women clinched their title with a total of 408 points, 178 more than second place UNB.

The Tigers head to the the University of Toronto for the CIS championships February 20-22, 2014.
