Tigers come up short in 3-2 loss to Sea-Hawks
Mykeo Parker-Christmas and Bennett Kishchuk scored for the Tigers in the loss on Sunday.
The Memorial Sea-Hawks swept the Dalhousie Tigers in their weekend series with a 3-2 win over the Tigers on Sunday.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Ben Hashimoto played a sprinting Micheal Trim down the line. Trim took a touch and then hit a high, looping ball to the back post of the Memorial net, ringing it off the post and back into play where Mykeo Parker-Christmas (Halifax, NS) was finishing his run. Parker-Christmas volleyed the ball into the net to put the Tigers up 1-0.
After a quiet 15 minutes, Memorial earned a corner kick. A ball whipped in by Brent Hennebury found the foot of Memorial's Hashem Khlifa to tie the game. Almost immediately off the re-start, the Tigers turnover the ball in their own half allowing Augustine Opuoro in on net where he hit a bullet of a strike to beat Sinclair Astridge (Victoria, BC) in the Tigers net. The Sea-Hawks go from being 1-0 to being up 2-1 in less than a minute.
Fairly balanced play continued for the rest of the second half seeing the Sea-Hawks head into the locker room with a 2-1 lead.
Memorial came out strong in the second half with Felly Elonda extending the Sea-Hawks lead in the 61st minute. The Sea-Hawks would end the game with 16 shots on the Tigers net.
The Tigers showed signs of life late in the game, with sustained pressure on Memorial's net. In the 86th minute the Tigers earn a free kick just outside the Memorial box. Suliman Elomrani (Halifax, NS) hit a great ball into the box and found a leaping Bennett Kishchuk (Whitehorse, YK) who nodded the ball home. The Tigers would continue to press for a tying goal but would run out of time.
The Sea-Hawks return to the field on Friday, September 8, when they travel to New Brunswick to face the UNB REDS. The Tigers host Mount Allison in their home opener on Sunday, September 10.
