Tigers move on to semifinal with 1-0 win over Axemen

Sydney, NS – The final quarter-final of the 2018 Subway AUS Men's Soccer Championship was evenly matched game as the #4 seed Dalhousie Tigers and #5 Acadia Axemen battled throughout the game.   

Both keepers, first-team all-star Ben Grondin (Calgary, AB) of Dalhousie and Acadia's Nic Jeffries (Rothesay, NB) made crucial saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless heading into the break. The game remained scoreless until the 64' when Kallen Heenan (Dartmouth, NS) of the Tigers scored on a nice pass from Freddy Bekkers (Halifax, NS). Acadia pressed in the final minutes to tie it but Dalhousie stayed strong at the back.  

Grondin turned aside 10 shots for the victory and clean sheet. Jeffries also played a strong game and stopped 4 of 5 shots that were fired at him.  

With the win, the Tigers will now face the 1st seed and host Cape Breton University CAPERS on Friday at 4.30pm in the semifinals.
