This week we feature our 1995-96 men’s soccer team for our flashback Friday. This team was the first and only Nova Scotia men’s soccer team to capture a Canadian University Championship.

In the front row (L-R) of this photo, we have Ian Kent (Head Coach), Sean Pederson, Mark Ellis, Mike Hudson, Chris Devlin, Chad Thorpe, Ante Jazic and George MacAskill. In the back row (L-R): Jaime Sawler (Assistant Coach), Keith Souchereau (Assistant Coach), Kate MacDonald (Trainer), Eric Pinfold, Paul Repp (Manager), Mike Ayyash, Graeme Allardice, Matt Serieys, Jeff Hyles, Dave MacFarlane, Trevor Chisholm, Stephen Cormier, Jeff Hibberts, Chad Denny, Paul English and Marc Rainford.

The Tigers were led to an undefeated regular season with 8 wins and 3 ties in 11 games. They won the Atlantic University Athletic Association championship at Wickwire field as the host team and would advance to the national championships hosted by the University of Quebec, Trois Rivieres. They would eventually be crowned champions after a 3-1 win over the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Mark Ellis led the team with 10 goals, 5 of which came in the playoffs. Trevor Chisholm, Chris Devlin, Paul English, Ante Jazic and Marc Rainford were all named AUAA all-stars. Jazic was also the AUAA rookie of the year and a second team All-Canadian selection.
