Baker commits to Tigers for 2021-22 season

Dalhousie Tigers men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of Jarrett Baker for the 2021-22 season.

Hailing from Black Rock, Nova Scotia, Baker has enjoyed a successful five years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The 6’0 defenceman started his career with Drummondville, netting 11 goals and 34 assists in three seasons. He has played the last two seasons near his hometown with the Cape Breton Eagles, recording 13 goals and 55 assists in their 90 regular season games.

Nominated for the 2019-20 QMJHL Defenceman of the Year award, Baker was also named to the QMJHL Player of the Week team in October and November of 2020.

“I’m so happy to come to play hockey at Dalhousie,” says Baker. “I have heard nothing but great things about the school and the hockey program. My head coach in Cape Breton had nothing but great things to say about Chris Donnelly and the direction Dalhousie hockey is heading. I couldn’t be more excited about becoming a Dalhousie Tiger.”

Baker is applying to the kinesiology program at Dalhousie.

“Baker was our favourite player for the last two years,” says current Cape Breton head coach and Tigers hockey alum Jake Grimes. “He’s a point-a-game guy with this club. He is physical, skilled and can play forever – he’s the complete package. Baker is smart both on and off the ice and wants to win badly and is fiercely competitive in games and practices.”

“In our early discussions with Jarrett, it was clear that he could have a tremendous impact on our program,” says Donnelly. “Based on conversations with Coach Grimes, we are extremely excited to have Jarrett choose to attend Dalhousie.”

The 2020-21 men’s hockey season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
