Dalhousie men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of Chandler Yakimowicz and Aiden Jamieson to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.
Both players come to the Tigers from the Sudbury Wolves after three seasons and a Memorial Cup championship win with the London Knights.
A 6’2 forward, Chandler Yakimowicz joins the Tigers after four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He started his OHL career with the London Knights, playing for three seasons and earning a Memorial Cup Championship title in 2016 before finishing his career with the Sudbury Wolves.
In his four seasons, he accumulated 99 points (36 goals and 63 assists).
“I’m very excited to come to Dalhousie,” says Yakimowicz. “I look forward to making many championship runs with the Tigers.”
The Kingston, Pennsylvania native was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 2014 NHL entry draft and played on the US National Under-18 team in the 2013-14 season. He is currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
“Anytime you can bring in a former NHL drafted player, it elevates your program,” says Donnelly. “Chandler brings a presence to the ice which is well-suited for our conference and the style of game we play.”
Fellow OHL teammate Aiden Jamieson will also start his university career with the Tigers this fall.
A 6’2 defenceman, Jamieson also played his first three seasons in the OHL with the London Knights, winning the Memorial Cup at the end of the 2015-16 season. He went on to finish his major junior career with the Sudbury Wolves.
In four OHL seasons, he accumulated 81 points (6 goals and 75 assists).
“I’m thrilled to be able to go to a university in a city like Halifax and play hockey for the Tigers,” says Jamieson. “I couldn’t be more excited for the season to start.”
A native of Lindsay, Ont., Jamieson will also begin his studies in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences this September.
“We were looking to add some offensive ability on the back end and we are excited to be able to have Aiden join our program,” says Donnelly. “He is coming off of a couple of 30+ point seasons and played the better part of three seasons for the London Knights, where he was an assistant captain.”
The Dalhousie Tigers will begin the regular season on October 6 when they take on the Saint Mary’s Huskies at the Halifax Forum. Game time is 7pm.
