Dalhousie men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of Evan Scott and Jonathan Cyr to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.
Both Scott and Cyr come to the Tigers from the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).
A 6’3 defenceman, Evan Scott played 31 games for the Valley Wildcats of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL), before finishing the 2016-17 season with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) Estevan Bruins. He finished the year with 10 goals and 20 assists in 48 games.
Scott played three seasons with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Shawinigan Cataractes before joining the Rimouski Oceanic for 13 games in the 2015-16 season.
“Having the opportunity to continue my education while pursuing my hockey career has been a goal of mine for a couple of years,” says Scott. “Attending Dalhousie and playing for the Tigers is extremely exciting.”
A native of Montreal, Q.C., Scott graduated with honours from John Rennie High School in 2013. He is currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Management program.
“Evan is a fierce competitor and he brings a strong defensive game to our team,” says Donnelly. “Evan is an effective puck mover and we look forward to working with him to continue his development.”
Joining Scott in the black and gold is Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) veteran Jonathan Cyr.
A 6’2 forward, Cyr played his last three seasons with the Hawkesbury Hawks. An assistant captain the last two years, he had 21 goals and 47 assists for 68 points in 59 games last season. He had 42 points in 44 games in the 2015-16 season and 51 points in 62 games in 2014-15.
Cyr was sixth in the CCHL in points this year and was selected to represent the CCHL at the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge the last two seasons.
“I am excited to join the Tigers,” says Cyr. “It’s an honour to be a student-athlete as such a prestigious university like Dalhousie.”
Cyr graduated from Cairine Wilson Secondary School in 2014. The Ottawa, O.N. native hopes to pursue a degree in commerce while at Dalhousie.
“Jonathan competes for every inch of ice in all three zones,” says Donnelly. “As a top scorer in the CCHL, we expect that he will bring that offensive ability to our program.”
The Dalhousie Tigers finished the 2016-17 regular season with a record of 8-19-3.
