In AUS men's hockey action at the Halifax Forum, the UNB Varsity Reds defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 6-3 in a game that saw plenty of scoring and a fast pace.

The first period saw UNB get on the board first when Subway Player of the Game Dylan Willick (Prince George, BC) scored on a great wrist shot on a shorthanded breakaway at 1:37 to make it 1-0. The Varsity Reds increased their lead in a strange way when Tristan Pomerleau (Riviere-du-Loup, QC) flipped the puck high in the air and it fluttered back down, hit the post, and ricocheted in to make it 2-0. UNB kept up the offence when Mike Thomas (New Maryland, NB) took a pass from behind the net and fired it into the net to give the Varsity Reds a 3-0 lead after the first period.

In the second period, Dalhousie got their first goal when Reid Murphy (Stittsville, ON) took a nice pass across the slot and put home the wrist shot at 1:46 on the powerplay to make it 3-1. The Varsity Reds reasserted control when Alexandre Goulet (Disraeli, QC) put the puck in after an extended and chaotic scramble in front of the Dalhousie net at 5:09 to make the score 4-1. UNB would continue their offensive pace when Kris Bennett (Brampton, ON) converted from in close at 12:20 to make it 5-1. The Varsity Reds got another before the end of the period when Stephen Anderson (Morell, PE) knocked in the rebound from the side of the net at 16:33 on the powerplay to give UNB a 6-1 leading after two periods.

As the third period was progressing, Dalhousie cut into the lead when Murphy banged in a rebound at 12:07 on the powerplay to make it 6-2. Then, the Tigers scored again only five seconds later when Jonathan Cyr (Ottawa, ON) took a pass off a 2 on 1 and put a fast wrist shot in at 12:12 to make the score 6-3. But, that's as close as they would get, with UNB picking up the victory.

The Varsity Reds outshot the Tigers 44-16. Rylan Parenteau (Saskatoon, SK) made 13 saves for the Varsity Reds, while Corbin Boes (Saskatoon, SK) and Jacob Fancy (Lower Sackville, NS) combined to stop 38 shots for the Tigers.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow at 7:00 pm. UNB plays the StFX X-Men in Antigonish, while the Tigers face the UPEI Panthers at the Forum.
