THE BASICS:
RESULT: Massachusetts 7, Dalhousie 5 (Exhibition)
LOCATION: Mullins Center (Amherst, Mass.)
 
THE LEAD: University of Massachusetts hockey rallied from a four-goal deficit to down Dalhousie 7-5 in exhibition play on Saturday night at the Mullins Center. The Minutemen trailed 4-0 early in the second, but outscored the Tigers 7-1 over the final 35 minutes of the contest to come away with the victory.
 
FIRST PERIOD:
UMass had several opportunities in a penalty-heavy period that included a five-minute power-play for the Minutemen, but the squad went 0-for-4 with the man advantage, while Dalhousie was 2-for-3.
 
Dalhousie used a pair of power-play goals by Alex Pawelczyk to bolster its 3-0 lead, the first coming at the 6:56 mark and another with three ticks left in the stanza. Zachary Taylor also added a 4-on-4 tally at 18:04.
 
SECOND PERIOD:
The Tigers pushed the margin to 4-0 with a power-play goal by Pawelczyk, who completed his hat trick 2:38 into the second, but UMass responded with three goals in the frame to close the gap to 4-3.
 
Senior Ray Pigozzi put UMass on the board at the 4:34 mark with his quick strike from the slot off a feed from sophomore Austin Plevy and freshman Shane Bear, the Minutemen's first power-play goal of the night.
 
Junior Dominic Trento added another for the Minutemen 7:06 into the frame on a play that was reviewed, but ultimately counted as a good goal.
 
Senior Steven Iacobellis then brought UMass to within one with his power-play tally at the back post at 10:33.
 
THIRD PERIOD:
Trento netted the equalizer for his second of the night 4:23 into the third period from sophomore Carmine Buono and junior Patrick Lee.
 
The Minutemen then pulled in front for the first time just 36 seconds later as Bear scored UMass' fifth goal of the game from classmates Niko Hildenbrand and Jack Suter.
 
Dalhousie knotted things up at 5-5 at the 7:43 mark, but Pigozzi picked a corner for the game winner at 17:55 and set up an empty net goal by Iacobellis to seal the victory at 19:40.
