Tigers add two more players to the 2015-16 roster

Dalhousie University men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of Jackson Playfair and Daniel Walsh to the Tigers 2015-16 lineup.

6’1 forward Jackson Playfair comes to the Tigers after three seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He got his start with the Spokane Chiefs in 2012, where he stayed until midway through the 2013-14 season when he was traded to the Tri-City Americans. After logging 16 games with the Americans last season, Playfair made his way back to Spokane to complete his major junior career with the Chiefs.

During his WHL career, Playfair played an average of 64 games each year. Prior to joining the WHL, he played a season with the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

“Jackson comes from a hockey family and we are eager to add his character to our dressing room’, says Donnelly. “His former coach describes him as a solid defensive player and a late bloomer offensively.”

Originally from Fort St. James, B.C, Playfair will be pursuing a bachelor of arts.

"I am very honoured to be given the opportunity to continue my hockey career at such an amazing school like Dalhousie," says Playfair. "The coaching staff and players have welcomed me better than I ever could have asked. I am very excited to get my educational career started at Dalhousie."

Joining Playfair on the front line is Daniel Walsh. A 6’ forward, Walsh spent two seasons with the Cumberland Grads of the Canadian Central Hockey League (CCHL) before joining the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Ottawa 67’s. He spent the last season with the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL), scoring 14 goals and grabbing 15 assists in 29 games.

Walsh will be reunited with his brother, Fabian, who is entering his third season with the Tigers.

"I am very happy to be joining the Tigers hockey program," says Walsh. "And I'm beyond excited to be rejoining my older brother."

A native of Gloucester, O.N., Walsh is currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s arts program.

“We are pleased and excited to announce Daniel is joining our program”, says Donnelly. “His combination of physical play and scoring touch will fit in well with the way we play.”

The Tigers season starts with the Adrian Facca Exhibition Series featuring games against Saint Mary’s (September 18 at the Halifax Forum), St. Thomas (September 25 in Springhill, N.S.), UMass (October 3 in Amherst, MA) and Sacred Heart (October 4 in Fairfield, CT) before kicking off the regular season.
