Men’s hockey Tigers add five players to the 2015-16 roster

Dalhousie University men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of five players to the Tigers 2015-16 lineup.

Forward Phil Gadoury comes to the Tigers after two seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads, of the Quebec Major Junior League (QMJHL). He collected 28 goals and 30 assists in 59 games during the regular season last year. Prior to coming to Halifax, Gadoury played two seasons with the Nepean Raiders of the Central Canadian Hockey League (CCHL).

“I am very excited to join an organization like the Tigers and start my commerce program at Dalhousie,” says Gadoury. “I am sure it will be a great experience.”

Originally from Greenfield Park, Que., Gadoury will be pursuing a bachelor of commerce.

“Gadoury is an offensively gifted forward,” says Donnelly. “He will have an immediate impact on our ability to score.”

Another former Moosehead, Jesse Lussier will be reuniting with Gadoury on the Tigers lineup this season. A 6’2” defenceman, Lussier played one and a half seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads before finishing his CHL career with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Prior to the QMJHL, Lussier played three seasons in the CCHL.

“I am very excited to be joining such a prestigious school,” says Lussier. “I look forward to pursuing both my hockey and academic careers with the guidance and help of the Dalhousie family.”

The Petawawa, Ont. native is enrolled in Dalhousie’s arts and social sciences program.

“Lussier is a solid defenceman who will bring great presence to the team,” says Donnelly. “He has great mobility and will enhance our defence right away.”

Colton Heffley, a Western Hockey League veteran, joins the Tigers after finishing his CHL career with the Prince Albert Raiders after five and a half seasons with the Kelowna Rockets. A 6’3” winger, Heffley is skilled as both a forward and on defence.

“We’re happy to be adding such a versatile player like Heffley to our lineup,” says Donnelly. “His physical presence will really add to our roster.”

Currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s arts and social sciences program, Heffley is from Swift Current, Sask.

“I’m very excited to join the Dalhousie Tigers,” says Heffley. “I’m really looking forward to the hockey season and working with Chris.”

After sitting out last season, Tyler Noseworthy will join the Tigers active roster this fall. Before coming to Dalhousie last year, Noseworthy played for the Bloomington Thunder of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), where he was second in points in the 2013-14 season. In previous seasons, he enjoyed success in the Federal and East Coast professional hockey leagues, as well as the Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MJAHL) and the QMJHL.

“I am very excited to be fully representing the Tigers after sitting out a year,” says Noseworthy. “It was a long hard year not being eligible to play games but that only fuelled my fire for this coming season.”

A native of St. John’s, N.L., Noseworthy is an arts and social sciences student.

“Tyler is a very quick forward with a heavy shot,” says Donnelly. “We know his speed and grit will provide us with an excellent two-way player who will cause trouble for our opponents.”

Felix Page, a 6’1” forward, joins the Tigers after two seasons with the Nepean Raiders of the CCHL. He collected 38 points in the 2013-14 regular season and had 42 in the previous year. Page will be reunited with his former Midget AAA and Junior A teammate, Phil Gadoury to help bolster the Tigers offence.

“I am excited to join the Dalhousie Tigers next year, says Page. “I can't wait to see the city of Halifax and meet my teammates for the upcoming.”

Currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s commerce program, Page is from Montreal, Que.

“Felix is an offensive forward with great leadership abilities,” says Donnelly. “Having both Felix and Phil back together will add a lot of depth to our offensive line.”

The Tigers will take to home ice on Wednesday, October 21 when they host the Acadia Axemen after kicking off the regular season with three away games versus Saint Mary’s, UPEI and UNB.
