Adrian Facca Fights Cancer Golf Tournament 2014

Adrian Facca Fights Cancer Golf Tournament 2014

By Victoria MacIntosh

The Dalhousie men’s hockey team partnered with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada to host their third annual golf tournament Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Chester Golf Course. The event was held in honour of Adrian Facca who was an outstanding member of the men’s hockey team for five years from 1974-1979, before passing away from Leukemia in 2011. Adrian and his family have helped the Tigers initiate a yearly contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada for many more years to come.

The tournament consisted of approximately 20 teams, all happy to support our two great causes. The event ran smoothly and thankfully the weather was on our side holding off any rain. Our winners for the day were Ben Chaisson, Dan Chaisson, Shawn Chaisson, and Gerrard McIntyre from team First Mutual. This hardworking group of gentlemen went home with four new golf bags donated by adidas. Other prizes given out throughout the day included four green fees for Chester Golf Course, Titleist Pro V1 golf balls, a travel golf bag, four Rogers golf shirts, and a Hockey Night in Canada rug.

Following the tournament, a live auction was held that included two Canada 1972 Summit Series watches, a couples massage, a Jonathan Quick/Drew Doughty dual signed oversized display piece, a Nathan MacKinnon signed Memorial Cup display piece, autographed Jonathan Drouin, Jean Beliveau  and Patrick Roy jerseys, and a Tiger Woods display piece.

At the end of the day, we raised $10,000! We are very thankful to all of the teams who registered and helped support our hockey program as well as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We hope to continue building this event year after year and have the continued support from our major sponsors. The more people we can bring together in support of such a great cause, the better!
