Tigers fall in battle of Halifax

(Halifax, NS)  In the 2nd Annual Tomstrong Night, the Saint Mary's Huskies won the Battle of Halifax, with a solid 7-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers.

Saint Mary's opened the scoring when Lower Sackviille native and the teams leading scorer, Ben Duffy scored on the powerplay at 8:47 to make the score 1-0. The Huskies extended their lead when Steven Shipley (Ilderton, ON) tallied another powerplay marker at 9:59 to make it 2-0. 

Michael D'Orazio (Richmond Hill, ON) would continue the scoring for the Huskies in the first to give them a 3-0 lead heading into the dressing room.   

The Tigers got on the board in the 2nd period, when Mitch Evelyn (Ottawa, ON) scored at 9:38 to cut the lead to 3-1. 

The Huskies restored the three goal lead when Francis Menard (Embrun, ON) potted a powerplay marker at 17:56 to make it 4-1 after 40 minutes. 

The third period saw more offensive action from Saint Mary's, when Jeff Marchand (Hammonds Plains, NS) scored at 4:14 to give the Huskies a 5-1 lead. 

Saint Mary's increased their lead to 6-1 when Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON) scored at 10:53 of the third.  Bradley Greene would finish up the scoring for the Huskies making it 7-1 in favour of SMU.

The Huskies outshot the Tigers 43-28 in the contest. Anthony Peters (Blyth, ON) made 27 saves to get the win in goal for the Huskies and Corbin Boes (Saskatoon, SK) stopped 36 shots in goal for the Tigers.

Steven Beyers (Orangeville, ON) was awarded Subway player of the game honours.

Both teams are back on the ice for their regular season finales this Friday at 7:00 pm. The Huskies host the St. Francis Xavier X-Men at the Forum, while the Tigers go against the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville.
