Tigers fall 4-2 in Moncton

MONCTON -- Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (10-13-2=22pts, 6th place) came back from a 2-0 deficit and exploded for three goals in the second to defeat Dalhousie University Tigers (6-18-1=13pts, 7th position), 4-2, in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game, Friday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena, in front of 600 spectators.

The Blue and Gold confirmed their spot in the playoffs and play their last regular season home game tonight (Saturday), against Acadia University Axemen (18-4-3=39pts, 2nd position), at 7 p.m. The six participating teams are now confirmed, the regular schedule will determine the opponents. Moncton is tied with UPEI with 22 points and has won its last three games.

Steve Lebel (Rémi Blanchard, Samuel Groulx) got the party going  for the Aigles, at 8:30 of the second period. Allain Saulnier (unassisted), on the power play five minutes later and Victor Beaulac (Mitchell Robillard, Alex Noël), a minute and a half later, gave the Aigles the lead for the first time in the game. Danny Chiasson (Pierre Durepos, Allain Saulnier) scored in an open net with six seconds left to play in the third to nail the win. Mike Evelyn (Andrew Wigginton, Andrew Langan), at 7:31 of the first and Alex Zafirtis (Tanner Williams, Colton Parsons), four minutes later, had offered hope to their team with a 2-0 lead. Wendell Vye was busy in nets for the Tigers with 45 shots, including 22 in the second period. Brandon Thibeau had 29 pucks for the Blue and Gold.

Defensemen Christopher Guay returned to action Friday evening after an injury that has kept him off the ice for three months.
