Faille's two goals lead Aigles Bleus past Tigers 5-2

Eric Faille scored two goals in the third period and the University of Moncton Aigles Bleus extended their winning streak to three as they defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 5-2 at the Halifax Forum on Saturday night.

The Tigers have now lost four straight and sit last in the AUS with a 1-12-1 record.

Fabian Walsh opened the scoring off a feed from Kendall McInnis for the Tigers just one minute after puck drop, but the Aigles Bleus answered only three minutes later to knot the game at one goal apiece.

Danny Chiasson added another goal for Moncton early in the second period to put the Aigles Bleus ahead 2-1 early. Alex Noel snuck a shorthanded goal past Bobby Nadeau halfway through the second period to extend the lead to two.

Tigers leading scorer Chris Ivanko added his seventh goal of the season with a minute left in the second, and the Tigers only trailed by one goal going into the final frame.

Eric Faille added an even-strength tally with ten minutes left in the game, and the Tigers were in desperation mode as time ticked down on the clock.

Bobby Nadeau headed to the bench with about a minute left as the Tigers opted for the extra attacker, trying to press for the equalizer. Eric Faille fired his second of the night into the empty net with 33 second left, and the Aigles Bleus came away with a 5-2 victory.

Jonathan Connelly made 26 saves in the win for the Aigles Bleus, who improve to 7-5 and sit in fourth place in the AUS.

It's been a tough year for the Tigers offense, who only have an AUS-low 26 in 14 games on the year.

Both teams now head into the holiday break in two completely different situations. The Tigers now need a near-miracle to make the playoffs, while the Aigles Bleus will look to continue their success and earn themselves a high playoff berth.
