Christie leads Tigers to fourth place finish
Malcolm Christie was named the player of the game for the third time on the way to finishing fourth in the national championship.
The Dalhousie Tigers lost to the Ottawa Gee Gees 91-83 to finish in fourth place at the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Final 8.
The Tigers made several early mistakes, turning over the ball in the offensive zone. Ottawa's Dragon Stajic recorded two steals and three rebounds in the first quarter.
Malcolm Christie had 15 points through the first 10 minutes, making three of his five 3-point attempts.
The first minutes of the second quarter was all Dalhousie, with Christie going to the line six times in the first three minutes and adding a jumper. He shot 90% from the line in the first half.
Stajic would add seven points in the second quarter. Gee Gees Kevin Otoo had a team-high 10 points in the first half. The Tigers would head to the dressing room up 44-41 at the half.
The third quarter saw very balanced scoring from the Gee Gees with four of their players recording five points in the quarter and pulling down a handful of rebound each. They would out score the Tigers in the third frame to take a 66-59 lead into the final quarter.
Ottawa's Justin Ndjock-Tadjore came alive in the fourth quarter scoring 13 points. Some late dramatics which saw the Gee Gees coach, James Derouin get ejected, let Dalhousie close the gap on the scoreboard, which was as wide as a 14 point gap at one point in the quarter.
But it was too little too late and the Gee Gees took home the bronze medal with a 91-83 win.
Christie finished was named the Tigers player of the game with a game-high 31 points. Stajic was named the player of the game for Ottawa with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists.
Both teams now head into the off-season and look to build on their finish for next year.
