Sea-Hawks defeat Tigers 85-81

(Halifax, NS) - The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 85-81 on Friday night at the Dalplex in Halifax, NS.

With the win the Sea-Hawks take sole possession of second place in the AUS.

Memorial started out swinging first when Emmanuel RIng (St. Johns, NL) turned Spencer Riar's (Montreal, QC) layup attempt away, which led to Nick Tuff (St. John's NL) running down the floor where he scored the layup and the foul.

After Gabe Damey (Ypsilati, Michigan) stole the pass from Jojo Moudiandambu (Hamilton, ON), the guard ran down the court and found Jayden Parker (Milton, ON) for an easy layup, but on the other end Ring splashed a three in the defender's face to give Memorial a 11-9 game.

The teams traded points, and with a minute left in the quarter it was a 17-15 lead for the Tigers, and after Nigynu Ngala (Montreal, QC) Ngala forced a travel, Dalhousie had prime position, but Riar missed a three pointer and the Sea-Hawks scored two layups to head into the beak with a 19-17 lead.

In the second quarter, Gabe Marotullio (London, ON) came off the bench and made an instant impact, first with a midrange basket, then a catch and shoot three, then the first-year guard found Parker under the rim for two points.

After Sam Maillet (Moncton, NB) put the hammer down on the Memorial defenders, and a Ngala layup, Dalhousie went into halftime up 41-35.

The Sea-Hawks tied the game early in the quarter, first with a layup by Ring, and then Ruff made four three throws, but a midrange bucket by Ngala gave DAL a two point lead.

With five minutes remaining Ring deflected the pass, went all the way down the court, euro stepped his defender and slammed down a dunk plus the foul.

Malcolm Christie (Fredricton, NB) got things going by throwing down a dunk, which Josh Francis (Calgary, AB) answered immediately with another dunk, and Ring splashed a massive top of the arc three pointer.

After what looked like a dunk contest, Parker followed it up with a perfect ten, when he slammed down a dunk on the defender's head, but Ring of course followed it up with a midrange bucket.

Memorial started to increase their lead and they headed into the fourth up 62-55.

The Sea-Hawks made it a double digit lead when Boardman-Raffet put in a layup, but a three pointer by Christie, and another by Riar made the score more manageable.

Riar made another three to bring the lead down to four, Marotullio added another, and with five minutes left in the game Maillet drove into the lane, got fouled and put in a clutch layup.

RIng scored two quick buckets to Memorial the lead, and Boardman-Raffet added an and one to increase the lead to five, but Riar made a block from behind on Boardman-Raffet, and Ngala added an acrobatic layup.

After Ring made a three pointer, Christie blocked a layup attempt, went down the court where he made a moving three to make it a two point lead.

Memorial made a running mid range, and Ngala went down the court and made two free throws, but Jason Thompson made a layup to make it a four point lead.

Ring iced the game with two free throws as the Sea-Hawks came out with a 85-81 win.

The teams will face each other in a rematch tomorrow at the Dalplex.
