The Dalhousie Tigers men's basketball team topped the Saint Mary's Huskies 76-64 on Wednesday evening.

The Huskies opened the scoring with a layup from Marc-Denault Gabriel (Montreal, QC) just moments into the game, but it was matched with a three-point shot from Riley Stewart (Stevensville, ON) for the Tigers, making it 3-2 early. The teams exchanged baskets before Caleb Stewart (Stevensville, ON) hit two free throws to extend the lead to 11-7 for Dalhousie. Continuing to build the lead, Malcolm Christie (Fredericton, NB) hit a nice three-point shot giving the Tigers a six-point lead. Off a clean steal at centre court, Gabriel laid another on-in for the Huskies before Gabriel Marcotulio (London, ON) hit another three as a response for Dalhousie. This led to the end of the quarter, with the Tigers leading 22-13.

The teams began the second exchanging plenty of free throws, seeing the score reach 28-19 three minutes in. Then Gabe Damey (Ypsilanti, Michigan) hit a nice jump shot for the Tigers to further extend the lead to 11 points. The Huskies responded shortly after with a nice three-pointer from Jayrell Diggs (East Preston, NS) to make it 34-22. Dalhousie continued to hit shots to maintain a double-digit lead as Marcotulio was able to make another three with 20 seconds left. With the final possession of the half, Saint Mary's was able to match the Tigers, hitting a three of their own making it 42-29.

The Tigers began the third where they left off, as Damey hit a three-point shot to get the offence going again. From there both teams started hitting shot after shot. The Huskies hit a nice shot from Jonas Maerz (Roseheim, Germany), before Samuel Maillet (Moncton, NB) stormed back down the court, hitting another three for the Tigers, bringing the score to 50-33. Dalhousie continued to bring the excitement as Christie was fed a beautiful pass and he was able to finish the play with a slam dunk to make it 56-40. The Huskies did not let the game get away from them though as Devawn White (Montreal, QC) hit a nice shot to bring them back within 16 points.

The Huskies opened the scoring in the final quarter, looking to come back, as they made it a 60-50 game just a minute in. The Tigers then pushed back with Marcotulio hitting another layup, restoring the 12-point lead. Continuing to go shot for shot, Saint Mary's quickly brought the ball back up court for a couple of baskets, making it 62-55 with six minutes remaining. As the teams exchanged buckets, it was Maillet who was able to make an impact play for the bucket and free throw, once again extending the lead to 70-57. Although the Huskies were pushing, the Tigers had every answer and closed out the game 76-64.

Malcolm Christie took home the Player of the Game award for the Tigers.

These two teams will meet again on Friday, Nov. 10 at 8 pm, with the Huskies looking to bounce back and the Tigers looking to keep it rolling.
