Cape Breton Capers bury the Dalhousie Tigers

RECAP BY: Ethan Hunt

(Halifax, NS) - The Cape Breton Capers dismantled the Dalhousie Tigers Friday night 82-67 at the Dalplex in Halifax, NS.

Gabe Damey (Ypsilanti, Michigan) scored the first basket of the season off a midrange for Dalhousie, but CBU's Justus Peuser (Geisenheim, Germany) answered right away with a triple.

A few possessions later Damey drove down into the paint, scored a gravity bending layup, and was fouled on the play, but he missed the free throw.

Malcolm Christie (Fredricton, NB) entered the game and his presence was immediately felt, swishing two three point shots to give the Tigers the lead.

Dalhousie led the Capers 27-20 at the end of the first quarter

CBU went on a 14-0 run to start the new quarter.

Aaron Cunningham (Shelburne, ON) poked the ball away from Samuel Maillet (Moncton, NB) and went on the fastbreak where he scored a tough layup, then matched that a few possessions later, this time hanging in the air for a jaw dropping two points.

On another fast break, Shakael Pryce (Pickering, ON) lobbed it up to Shaquai Manswell (Ajax, ON) who scooped the ball in for the layup.

The next play Peuser banked in a layup, and scored the foul shot to make it a double digit lead.

The Tigers clawed back to end the half down 42-47 at the end of the half.

On the first Dalhousie possession, the Tigers looked like they could get nothing going, but Spencer Riar (Montreal, PQ) cashed in a corner three.

Damey then followed that up with a falling away bucket, and crashed into the side mats.

It looked like it was all DAL until Riar thought he had an easy layup, but Tyson Cato (St Catherines, ON) came out of nowhere to block the shot, and Peuser followed that up with a triple of his own.

Cape Breton answered back and ended the quarter up 67-54.

Damey started the third quarter by making his defender look silly for his 23rd point of the night, but Peuser left the Tigers with no time to celebrate cashing in a three.

Christie got going again in the fourth quarter, the third year guard started by hanging for a layup, then cashing in from three.

The Capers steadily kept the Tigers attempted comebacks at ease, and came out with the 82-67 win on the road.

Peuser ended up with 18 points and took home the player of the game for the Capers.

The Tigers will seek to get their revenge Saturday night at the Dalplex.
