Tigers add Christie for 2021-22 season

Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball head coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of Malcolm Christie for the 2021-22 season.

Christie plays for Fredericton High School (FHS), the reigning New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association (NBIAA) provincial champions. The combo guard was named a provincial all-star at the end of the 2019-20 season and earned the FHS Top Offensive Player award for the second year in a row. He and his Black Kats teammates are currently undefeated at the halfway mark of the 2020-21 NBIAA season, with Christie averaging 29.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game.

A native of Fredericton, Christie was a member of Team New Brunswick who finished third at the 2019 Canada Basketball U17 National Championship and was named a second team All-Canadian at the end of the tournament for his efforts.

“I'm extremely excited to join the Tigers,” says Christie. “Coach Plato has been recruiting me since my grade 11 year and has been great to me and my family throughout the process. I know I'm joining a great team full of great players - I'm excited to learn from them and work hard to help the Tigers win a national championship.”

Christie will be studying commerce at Dalhousie.

“We are extremely pleased with Malcolm’s commitment to Dalhousie,” says Plato. “We feel very fortunate that he will be wearing the black and gold for the next five years as I feel he is not only one of the most talented high school seniors in Atlantic Canada, but one of the most highly-recruited talents in all of Canada this year. Malcolm is a prolific scorer who possesses a solid 3-point shot and comes from an excellent high school program at Fredericton High. He is a leader and a winner and will fit in nicely with his new teammates. Malcolm was our number recruit this year and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to coach another special Maritime talent.”

The 2020-21 season has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
