Veinot & Carson drafted to CEBL

Two men’s basketball Tigers have been selected in the 2021 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) draft.

The seven CEBL franchises drafted 21 student-athletes from 17 Canadian universities in the three-round selection process ahead of its third season.

Keevan Veinot was drafted fifth by the Hamilton Honey Badgers and Alex Carson was the seventh pick and will be suiting up for the Edmonton Stingers.

A 6’4 guard, Veinot became the first Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball player to be named the Atlantic University Sport conference’s most valuable player and led the Tigers to their second-straight AUS championship win during the 2019-20 season.

The Port Williams, N.S. native averaged a team-high 15.6 points and 5.5 assists per game playing in 19 of 20 regular season games during the 2019-20 season. An AUS first team all-star, he was also named to the conference championship all-star team.

"I’m very excited to be heading to the CEBL and to be playing for the Hamilton Honey Badgers," says Veinot. "I am looking forward to playing with the returning players and under great coaches. Can’t wait to see what Hamilton has in store."

Veinot became the first Dalhousie men’s basketball player to be named a U SPORTS first team All-Canadian and was named to the national championship all-star team after leading the Tigers to a silver medal finish.

A 6’5 guard, Carson is a two-time AUS second team all-star who helped lead the Tigers to a silver medal finish at the 2019-20 U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Final 8 Championship. The 2019-20 AUS Championship MVP and all-star has played an integral role in the Tigers winning three of the last four AUS conference championship titles.

The Lower Sackville, N.S. native led the nation in free throw percentage during the 2019-20 season with a 93.4% shooting efficiency. Carson sits atop the Tigers leader board for the most three-point field goals made in a single season (2017-18) with 67, good for second in the Atlantic conference record books.

Carson will be suiting up alongside Tigers alum Sascha Kappos who returns to the CEBL defending champion Stingers for his second season.

"I'm very excited to be playing with the Edmonton Stingers this summer," says Carson. "I'm looking forward to learning and compteing with last year's Summer Series champs and play with Sascha (Kappos) again."
