Dalhousie University men’s basketball coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the addition of Adam Sellan to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.

A 6’3 guard, Sellan recently graduated from Upper Canada College where he led the Blues varsity basketball team to the Canadian Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) semifinals last season. He also led them to bronze medal finishes at the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) national championship in both the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

The 2017 Upper Canada College male athlete of the year, he was also the men’s basketball team captain and MVP. Sellan also played varsity football, earning a CISAA championship title at the end of the 2016 season and has competed in the high jump for the track and field team at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associtions (OFSAA).

“I am honoured to be studying at Dalhousie and playing for the Tigers,” says Sellan. “I look forward to being a part of the Dalhousie basketball culture and playing under the guidance of such a well-respected coach. I’m excited to help further the success of the team that Coach Plato and his staff have created at Dalhousie.”

Sellan graduated with an International Baccalaureate diploma in June and received High Honours for earning an average above 90%. The Toronto, Ont. native is currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Management program.

“Adam is a very cerebral player, whose defensive awareness and play-making abilities will add depth and balance to the lineup,” says Plato. “He has a unique ability to get to the basket and is deceptively quick with his penetration and play-making.”

The Tigers had their best-ever season in 2016-17. After finishing atop the regular season standings, they won their third-consecutive AUS championship before going on to a bronze medal at the U SPORTS championship in Halifax.
