In AUS men's basketball action at the Dalplex, the Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Cape Breton Capers 83-58 in a game which was an emotional rollercoaster for the most part.
In the first quarter, Dalhousie got out to a 5-0 run in the first two minutes to give themselves a good start. Cape Breton did make it 10-5 two minutes later to keep up the pace. Both teams continued to exchange baskets as emotions were running high, resulting in a few boilovers on the court and the sidelines. The Tigers led 17-14 after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw the Capers get a 5-0 run of their own in the first two minutes of the quarter. Dalhousie responded by scoring six straight points in the middle part of the quarter to regain control. The two teams continued the intense play established in the first as it seemed like everyone on the court and sidelines was wound up and on edge. The Tigers ended up taking a 39-27 lead into halftime.
As the third quarter was in progress, the Tigers began to put the pedal down as they outscored the Capers 17-9 in the first six minutes of the quarter. The Capers couldn't find a real answer for this surge and found themselves in trouble. As things started to settle down from an emotional standpoint, Dalhousie led 68-44 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers kept the pressure up and didn't let up for a second. The Capers tried to put up a fight, tying the fourth quarter score at 12-12 with two minutes left. However, it was too late as Dalhousie was able to seal the win.
The Tigers were led by Subway Player of the Game Alex Carson (Lower Sackville, NS), who had 20 points, while also snatching three steals. Cedric Sanogo (Montreal, QC) added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the double double
The Capers were powered by Martin Campbell (Upper Marlboro, MD), who led his team with 13 points, while also grabbing three boards. Indiana Rotondo (Vaughan, ON) contributed nine point for Cape Breton
The Tigers are in action next this Thursday at 8:00 pm against the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville, while the Capers' next game is tomorrow at 8:00 pm against the Axemen in Wolfville.
