(St. John's, NL) The Dalhousie Tigers spoiled the Sea-Hawks home opener with an 87-54 victory, which drops Memorial's record to 0-3 on the season.  The 3-time defending AUS champion Tigers now sit at 3-0 and atop the AUS standings.

The Dalhousie Tigers started the game with great confidence, tempo, and organization. The offense developed without an agenda, players finding the open man and hitting shots off clean rotations.

Memorial had difficulties keeping the same pace as the Tigers, but they managed to contain their offense. Nathan Barker (15 points on 7/9 shooting) started strong for the Sea-Hawks, with a great and-one and an alley-oop play to provide a spark.

The Sea-Hawks and Tigers would exchange baskets for the majority of the first half, with Dalhousie holding a 30-27 advantage with 2:25 left to play in the half.  Dalhousie finished the half on a 10-2 run behind some stifling defense.  The Tigers would go into the break with a 40-29 lead.

Despite a strong first half, the Sea-Hawks had a great challenge trying to continue their efforts in controlling Dalhousie's great offensive power.

The third quarter was exceptional for the Tigers, stroking it from all over the court. Memorial was outscored 38 to 21 in the third behind the Tigers exceptional shooting (83.3% FG, 85.7% 3PT).

Paddy Dawe was a positive factor for the Sea-Hawks (10 points, 7 rebounds on 4/8 shooting), providing great energy on the backboard, as well as well-earned hustle points. Against Memorial's best efforts, it proved too little against the Tigers offensive onslaught; The Tigers finished the third 78-50, and the final score, 87-64.

Subway Player of the Game honours were awarded to Dalhousie's Kevin Duong (15 points on 6/10 shooting).

The Sea-Hawks and Tigers will complete the weekend series tomorrow with tip-off scheduled for 2pm. The game is also available on AUStv.ca
