(Halifax, N.S.) Dalhousie University men’s basketball coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of Jordan Brathwaite to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.
Brathwaite comes to the Tigers after an impressive high school and club team career.
A 6’3 guard, Brathwaite is currently enrolled at Thornlea Secondary School, a prep school in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association. Prior to joining the Thunder, he played four years at Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School. A team captain all four years, he led the boy’s senior basketball team to back-to-back Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championship appearances after winning consecutive Halton and Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) championship titles. He averaged 20 points, four assists and three rebounds per game during last year’s championship, taking the team to the quarter-final round. The team’s MVP in three of his four seasons, Brathwaite was also their junior athlete of the year in grade nine.
Brathwaite grew up playing in the Milton Stags Youth Basketball Club, and played four seasons on the Stag Elite team. Last spring he joined the Canada Elite Amateur Athletic Union Boys basketball team, competing in the Under Armour Association Grassroots Basketball Circuit.
"My family and I are very excited that I will be continuing my academic and athletic careers at Dalhousie,” says Brathwaite. “I think it (Dalhousie) is the best place for me to grow as a student-athlete and person and I’m looking forward to being part of a great winning atmosphere.”
A native of Milton, O.N., Brathwaite plans to enroll in Dalhousie’s political science program next fall.
"Jordan's versatility, size, athleticism and competitiveness combine to provide the Tigers with a solid addition to the backcourt for the next five years,” says Plato. “I am confident that Jordan's style of play will fit nicely with the philosophy and culture of our program and he will be a player to watch for years to come."
The Tigers are currently #8 in the U Sports Top 10 rankings and are in pursuit of their third consecutive AUS championship title.
