Men’s Basketball Tigers add Marley Blommers to 2017-18 lineup

Dalhousie University men’s basketball coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the addition of Marley Blommers to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.

Blommers comes to the Tigers after an impressive high school career.

A 6’5 shooting guard, Blommers is currently enrolled at Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, Connecticut. He led the Knight’s to a second-place finish in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B division this year. Blommers has averaged 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in his last two seasons and was named his team’s player of the year after earning NEPSAC Class B third-team honours this season.

A native of Chatham, O.N., Blommers played two seasons with the Chatham-Kent Secondary School team before attending Marianapolis and led them to a first-place regular season finish in the Lambton Kent Secondary School Athletic Federation (LKSSAF) AAA division in the 2014-15 season.

“I am looking forward to playing under the guidance of such an experienced coach as Coach Plato,” says Blommers. “I am honoured to have the opportunity to come back to Canada to play for a winning program and I’m eager to make an impact both on and off the court at Dalhousie.”

A Dean’s list student in 2016, Blommers received Head of Schools List honours this year for earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher. He is currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Commerce co-op program.

“Marley’s addition to the Tigers will provide an instant injection of offensive talent from both the perimetre and in transition,” says Plato. “He has a unique ability to get to the basket and finish and will be counted on to help fill the offensive void left by departing seniors Ritchie Kanza Mata, Jarred Reid and Kashrell Lawrence. It is a real pleasure and honour to add a quality student-athlete like Marley to our program.”

The Tigers had their best ever season in 2016-17. After finishing atop the regular season standings, they won their third-consecutive AUS championship before going on to a bronze medal at the U SPORTS championship in Halifax.
