2016-17 Men's basketball Season Preview

2016-17 Men's basketball Season Preview

As the two-time defending AUS champions, the men’s basketball team is intent on improving on their fourth-place finish at the CIS national championship. Led by co-captains Ritchie Kanza Mata, Kashrell Lawrence and Jarred Reid, the Tigers will be a force to be reckoned with.

Other key returnees include AUS championship all-star Sven Stammberger, AUS rookie of the year Jordan Aquino-Serjue, Adam Karmali and sharpshooters Matt McVeigh and Kevin Duong. 6’10 forward Sascha Kappos will be counted on to have a solid year in the post.

Three new faces will wear the black and gold for the first time this year including power forwards 6’6 Alex Carson (Sackville High) and 6’7 Ryall Stroud (Queen’s University) who will both have an immediate impact in the league.  Also new to the line-up this season is 6’3 Warren Liang (Vancouver, BC). Ryan Harnett re-joins the Tigers after playing two seasons in the CCAA with the University of King’s College. Liang and Harnett will add toughness and experience to an already well-seasoned team.

As hosts of 2017 CIS Men’s Basketball Final 8, the Tigers are determined to make this a banner year.  Much needs to be done between now and March, but the coaching staff is cautiously optimistic about this being another very successful year for the men’s basketball program.
